Not only is your new place within walking distance of shops and cafes, the local gym and sports grounds, you have regional parks, lakes, beaches and playgrounds on your doorstep. Here's our guide to a selection of the best things to do within 30 minutes drive of Wellsford Country Estate.

Pakiri Beach
Pakiri Beach

With incredibly beautiful beaches within easy reach on the east coast and the Kaipara Harbour to the west, you're spoiled for choice when it comes to getting sand between your toes.

Your nearest east coast beaches are Te Arai and Forestry (20 minutes) and Pakiri (30 minutes). Both are well known for their consistent surf conditions and endlessly long stretches of white sand.

The world renown marine reserve at Goat Island is just 10 more minutes from Pakiri and offers some of the best scuba diving and snorkelling around.

If you're looking for a sedate beach swim, head for the old quarry hole at Te Arai beach, which offers a perfectly sheltered swimming area.

The Wellsford market runs on the first Saturday of the month from 9am to 2pm at the OWL Community Hub right in town, so it's an easy stroll to get there and a great place to pick up gifts as well as local produce.

Further afield, the Mangawhai market runs every Saturday from 9am to 1pm in the Mangawhai village. Or, head towards Matakana where the weekly Farmers' market is also on  Saturday, 8am - 1pm.

Local fishing options

When you live midway between 2 coasts, there's no shortage of opportunity to go fishing from land or by boat.

Your nearest place to launch a boat is the boat ramp at Port Albert, just 15 minutes from Wellsford town. Alternatively, go fishing off the rocks at Atiu Creek regional park, where there are excellent surfcasting spots available.

On the east coast, you can fish off Pakiri and Te Arai beaches and if you're a keen boatie, head out from Mangawhai Heads boat ramp. There's often good fishing in Mangawhai harbour and the nearby Hen and Chickens islands and Sail Rock seldom fail to produce plenty of snapper and kahawai.
